Naked President
Posted by: Alex McFarlane - 21-09-2011, 03:39 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (5)

The President of a chess association is to pose nude in a charity calendar.

Fortunately for us it will not be our own President but the ECF one CJ De Mooi.

Hopefully Mike will not be tempted to do likewise, though we know it would need to be a centre page 'spread'.

 Congress & Junior event organisers
Posted by: Jacqui Thomas - 16-09-2011, 08:20 PM - Forum: Junior Chess Chat - Replies (2)

SJC Chess for Kicks has been running a number of years now with qualifying heats in different areas of the country leading to qualification to a National Final. The final of this event is currently the only Scottish National Junior individual Championship & we are keen to make this an inclusive event with as many opportunities for qualification as possible.

To do this we want to encourage other established & new events to award qualification places for the Chess for Kicks finals to their junior prize winners.

If you would be interested in being involved with this as part of your event can you please contact either me (contact details on coach list) or Michael Hanley (contact details on arbiter list or email president@chessscotland.com )

The MacIsaac and Nancy Elder Championships
Posted by: Chris Hampton - 13-09-2011, 11:59 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (9)

Clubs are once again invited to nominate their representatives for the Nancy Elder and the MacIsaac. Tournaments. In the first instance, entries should be sent to Richard Heathwood,
the Membership Secretary, but also copied to Chris Hampton, the Organizer.
Two important changes have been made, experimentally, this season, to the format of both Tournaments

The main change is that both Tournaments will be played in an All-Play-All ('Round Robin') format.

Unless stated otherwise, the time control for matches played in both Tournaments will now be set at 30 moves in 1 hour followed, if necessary, by a 15 minutes time addition for completion.
If a draw is agreed by the players, a rematch is required with reversed colours.
We hope these changes will encourage a greater number of Clubs to enter nominees to either or both Tournaments! The deadline for receipt of all entries is set for Friday the 28th of October 2011

 Alcohol in Chess Clubs
Posted by: George Thomson - 12-09-2011, 12:05 AM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (20)

Cumbernauld chess club have moved into new premises which include a bar.
We would be interested to hear the views of other chess players on the availability of alcohol at chess clubs.Particularly clubs which already have bar facilities.
We are unsure whether we should allow alcohol on "Match Nights"
All thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.
P.S. Andrew, if you wish to add a poll to this subject you are welcome to do so.
