I am participating in the Great Scottish Swim at Strathclyde park on the 24th of September. It is a 2 kilometre swim the length of the park.

Hopefully I am a bit better at swimming in open water than I am at Chess!

The CLDF provides support for children, young people and their families affected by liver disease. They also conduct research on liver disease.

The cost becomes €7 per player for a swiss or team event, and €300 per all play all PLUS a €100 per section registration fee

Would anyone be interested in coaching the chess club at Jordanhill School Primary Department (in the West End of Glasgow)? I retired from this at the end of last session, having run it for about 15 years, and sadly, the management have failed to keep it going this term.
I recently received an email from a parent stating:
"I have spoken with other parents and we are keen to keep the club going. I feel I can build a pool of parents who will supervise and manage the kids but what we lack is chess expertise. Would it be a viable option to seek a local chess coach? ... Do you know of anyone we could approach?"
You would not need to be an expert or a registered coach (I am neither), all that is required is enthusiasm, a good understanding of the game, and the ability to teach the children to play by the rules.
In recent years the club has met on Mondays from 3.30 to 4.30pm due to the availability of a suitable room at that time, but I have previously run sessions at the same time on other days and sometimes at lunchtimes also. I think the timing would be negotiable. There would be some remuneration - again negotiable: charging the children would be a new approach as the club has previously been completely free, with equipment and occasional expenses paid for by the school.

Andrew, regarding the new map showing the location of all the Chess Clubs in Scotland. Would it be possible to add whatever night the club meets to this excellent service. It would perhaps encourage visitors to any given area to pop along to another club. This may be interesting for club members to have the opportunity to play new faces instead of the same old faces every week.

I have a quick question:

I am emailed each year regarding Lothians & Edinburgh Congresses with the tournament entry form. Why am I only emailed regarding these tournaments each year? I would prefer to receive an email invitation to all congresses not just those of Chess Edinburgh.

I don't even know how Chess Edinburgh got my email address... unless from Chess Scotland (not sure I gave permission :\ ). Can this list be utilised for all congresses? Perhaps its just that tournament organisers are not aware of this email list but Chess Edinburgh are and are using it effectively.

Any thoughts? I like to receive an email as it I am lazy and its easier to then enter rather than go to the calendar and download the entry form. 8)

The key change to previous years is that all weekend main list open events will be double points regardless of size of event. Comments from last season regarding which events constitute the Scottish Championships, meaning of Best 10 etc have been addressed.
