  2016 Olympiad selection and dates
Posted by: andyburnett - 05-02-2016, 06:17 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Hi everyone,

As the dates for the Baku Olympiad 2016 are currently up in the air, I have decided to postpone the deadline for those interested in playing -and thus the selection process - until February 28th. (P{lease note:This date may also be subject to change, but will not be brought forward)

Apologies for any confusion, uncertainty or problems this may cause, and also for what has gone before, but things are currently out of my/our hands.

If anyone wishes to contact me directly about this, please do so at <!-- e --><a href="mailto:abburnett@hotmail.com">abburnett@hotmail.com</a><!-- e -->

Kind regards,
Andy Burnett (CS International Director)

  Chess on TV Benidorm
Posted by: Alex Gillies - 03-02-2016, 08:01 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (17)

Not sure if this was covered in the bond chess discussion a few months back?.. is it just me or is it a conspiracy that with any chess game on tv, they need to try and sneak an intentional error in?

Benidorm on tv other night - white square on right hand side so Q is on e1.. lost count of amount of times I have seen this.... I think they know that it winds chess players up!

  Facebook chess curiosity
Posted by: WBuchanan - 03-02-2016, 06:43 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (2)

I came across this apparently unpublished way to play chess on Facebook.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/facebook-chess-game-messenger-hidden-secret-easter-egg-how-to-play-a6851116.html">http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 51116.html</a><!-- m -->

I'm not on Facebook myself, but thought it looked unlilkely to interest regular chessplayers (or become the format for next year's Richardson Cup), so I er...posted it here! Just thought everyone ought to know it was there.

Cheers

A very impressively run event getting many the key points right e.g. a quality venue, a central venue, lots of live boards, the draw posted in good time and on the internet and, finally, results published immediately. This is all how it should be done. Thanks!

Forgot to mention...increments on the clock. Finally and not before time. Congratulations for being the first to introduce these. It is the future.

World's premier chess open starts today in Gibraltar. Alan Tate, Steve Mannion and Keti Arakhamia-Grant all paired against players in the World top 50.

Any predictions for a scalp today?
