  Michael Hanley
Posted by: Phil Thomas - 10-07-2013, 01:10 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (43)

CS Constitution clause 6.2 states

6.2 An annual subscription payable by Individual, Club, Corporate and Affiliate members of Chess Scotland shall be fixed by COUNCIL from time to time, and COUNCIL is empowered to levy different subscriptions in respect of these different classes of membership and in respect of different age groups or other categories defined by COUNCIL. COUNCIL is empowered to expel any Member whose subscription is three months or more overdue and may delegate this power to an Office Bearer.

I’ll repeat part of that.

COUNCIL is empowered to expel any Member whose subscription is three months or more overdue and may delegate this power to an Office Bearer.

Key phrases being
*** COUNCIL is empowered to
*** Three months or more.

So why is it that Michael Hanley whose membership finished at the end of June 2013 is no longer on the lists of

Directors
Arbiters
Coaches
Chaperones

Especially Chaperones because one does not have to be a member of CS in order to be a chaperone.

Can the last volunteer to leave or be expelled please turn off the lights

  PVG clearance
Posted by: andyburnett - 05-07-2013, 09:56 AM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (29)

Hi all,

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to gain PVG clearance for coaching juniors? Is it possible to gain CS accreditation for coaching adults only in the meantime?

Thanks in advance,
Andy Burnett

  The Gun Lobby & Chessbase
Posted by: Mike Scott - 04-07-2013, 10:02 AM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (4)

Chessbase is really annoying me now. On the one hand they are promoting their ever better Android app with better and more powerful analytical tools (for cheating) and on the other conducting a public lynching of a player alledged to have been cheating.

Is this a bit like the the gun manufacturers not accepting the link between their products and mass shootings in the USA?

  Glorney 2013

The four tournaments of the Glorney Festival will be under way in three weeks time (it's in Cardiff this year).

As a matter of interest, does anybody know if the Scottish teams have been selected yet?

I appreciate there are differences in the circumstances this year, but I notice that last year the squads were announced on the 19th of May.

THE NANCY ELDER AND MACISAAC TOURNAMENTS(2012-3)
Posted by: Chris Hampton - 03-07-2013, 01:36 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (4)

UPDATE ON MACISAAC AND NANCY ELDER TOURNAMENT (2012-3)

The outcome of the MacIsaac tournament (that is how the name of it is spelt!) is still hanging in the balance as at 3rd July 2013. Alistair Maxwell (Cathcart) overcame a gallant young Daniel Thomas (East Kilbride) at a semi-final match played, courtesy of Michael Hanley,(P2 St Bride's Big Grin )in a Church Hall in Hallcraig Street in Airdrie on Sunday the 23rd of June. For personal reasons and very regrettably,Phil Thomas (Troon) has decided to withdraw from the tournament, leaving Michael Grove (Castlehill) a clear run to a final match against Alistair. I hope that this intriguing match can be played before the end of July and at or before the 'Scottish'
Congratulations must go to Stephen Hilton (Inverclyde Central) who kept the Nancy Elder flag flying by his defeat of Lisa Paton (Castlehill) in the one and only match played in that tournament this year. It should be recorded that Stephen travelled all the way from Greenock to Dundee (and back) to play the match!

3rd Elite Armageddon (8th-10th Aug)- Arbiter Required
Posted by: D-Oswald - 02-07-2013, 12:27 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (4)

Was hoping to organise another Armageddon event before the winter but it has been difficult to find appropriate dates in September/October and therefore I am hopeful of running the 3rd Elite Armageddon on the 8th-10th of August, subject to confirmation of an arbiter.

Can pay travel expenses and based on the last two, an exciting weekend!

If any arbiters are interested please do not hesitate to contact me.Thanks!

  Leaving the board during play
Posted by: Graham Kerr - 01-07-2013, 12:21 AM - Forum: The Arbiters Jotter - Replies (14)

I had always understood that one shouldn't leave the board when it is their turn to move.
Is this a rule or just etiquette? Or am i mistaken?

  100 Club
Posted by: David G Congalton - 28-06-2013, 03:42 PM - Forum: General Chess Chat - Replies (2)

The June winner of the 100 Club is N Kafka, who wins £45.50 for the second month in a row.

Chess Scotland runs the 100 Club to assist with general fund raising. 50% of the money available in any given month is distributed as prizes, with the balance being used to offset some of the costs of organising chess in Scotland. Organisation costs: Running CS member services, running CS tournaments, maintaining a rating list, organising Scottish teams international participation, junior training, Scottish Chess magazine, this website! etc

Anyone aged 16 or over can subscribe to the Club. It costs £1 per month to buy a prize draw unit, and, while the normal period to hold a unit is one year, other time periods can be accommodated. Any number of units may be held by a member.
