I'm fairly sure there was a thread on this topic before, but i can't seem to find it.
does anyone know what the current conversion is for CS to ECF grades?
TIA

Unfortunately if you go to the ECF grading page you get these formulae which gives a different answer to the CS Site (*10 + 180)
ECF x 8 + 650 = FIDE
(FIDE – 650) / 8 = ECF
ECF x 8 + 600 = National Elo
(National Elo – 600) / 8 = ECF
So 178 ECF on the CS site converts to 1958
and on the ECF site the same grade converts to 2024 in CS units or if you prefer 2074 FIDE.
Don't assume that Tournament directors in England will take their formula from the CS site. If playing south of the border you may end up in a higher section than you predicted.

Phil is spot on here. If you play in England and have an ECF grade the tournament organiser will probably use this. After that, it's a complete lottery which "conversion formula" they use depending on which tournament and section you play in.

Perhaps we should contact the ECF to get this rectified. It's completely stupid that both federations use different conversion formulas for the same thing. =)

They are not interested, in fact they were bemused that we changed ours in the first place

Other way around Phil, you end up in a lower tournament. 1400 CS = 100 ECF old money or 122 New money

In this case we should all just go down south and win all their events and grading prizes. :U
