Hi,

Do any of your chess clubs use a bank that offers a free account with basic online facilities?

If so I'd be interested if you could share the details.

We have used TSB for a long time but they are not interested in allowing us to move to an account with online facilities. (we are stuck with using cheques)

Our treasurer was recently assured by HSBC that it was possible to have a free bank account for our club, only to find when starting the set up process that there was a £5 monthly administration fee. Perhaps there are no free options available and clubs are paying a fee?

Peter Doris sadly passed away on the 26th of September. The funeral was held on Thursday 17th of October at St Ninian & Triduana RC church, Marionville Road, Edinburgh then on to Warriston Crematorium and finishing at Leith Dockers Club.

I am merely one of many who knew Peter as a humble and gentle soul who seemed to enjoy attending many of the events across the Chess Scotland calendar and had his home alongside the rest of us in the Scottish chess community. In the context of that, if others would like to contribute to this obituary thread of him please do so. 

I will always remember the kindness which he has showed Jonathan and I over the years - from the generosity of spirit he showed when analysing a game with a junior he had played whatever the result to the consideration and thoughtfulness he showed in caring for others within our community. He always showed a genuine fondness and interest in the progress of Jonathan and many of the juniors that he played - and perhaps even a pride that he had been a part of their progress through games played. 

Whenever something had happened to Jonathan (whether it was being upset after a defeat or something else) and I was only belatedly able to become aware of it because I had finished my own game, it would often be Peter who would be one of the first to come and let me know what had happened and where Jonathan was.

He will be sadly missed.

Now the AGM has been called can I be assured that all the executive committee, management board and council minutes will be published and up to to date no later than three weeks before the AGM.

I also wish to stand as an individual for council and have a proposer and seconder. Can anyone guide me as to procedure for myself and proposers as I don't see how in the policies or constitution how to do it.

Finally since Chess Scotland  wont entertain AOCB how do submit a statement or question(s) at the AGM

the Scotrail Club 50 offer of a £17 return to/from anywhere in Scotland includes the period of the Oban Congress 15th to 17th November 2024.

I just need to sort out the hotel and entering the tournament now

Louis Cheng finished 2nd equal in the Northumberland Open, losing only to eventual winner GM Danny Gormally.

His performance has earned him an additional 34 rating points.

Where has the summer gone?? Can't believe it's time for SNCL again.

Please tell your clubs and contact me by 16th October if you intend to enter teams.  Entry fee is £150 per team of five players.

Payment- I will accept cash on the day or cheques written out to Glynis Grant.   SNCL cheques are not accepted in the new account we have for SNCL.
