I have to announce the death of George Brown, one of the stalwarts of Lanark Chess Club, George was Lanark Chess Club and was by far the most reliable friend you could hope to have. George was our longest serving member and won the Club Championship five times and I'm sure he could have won a lot more. There was nothing I liked better than playing George at bounce games on a Monday night. Sadly George's health over the last couple of years prevented him from driving and consequently attending the club. The last time I played him in a graded game he won my queen in the opening and attacked my position reminiscent of his younger playing strength. George's gentlemanly manner over the board was always exemplary and I always use his example which reaching youngsters the intricies of the game.
George will be sorely missed and Lanark Chess Club will never be the same without him.

The sad news has just reached me that George Pyrich, formerly of Nairns and Kirkcaldy Chess Clubs, has passed away in Spain at the weekend after a short illness.
George was a hugely respected member of the Scottish chess community, active in league and tournament chess over many decades, and one of the driving forces behind the Glenrothes Chess Congress.
He participated in the Scottish Championships on many occasions and there will be very few players in the country who did not recognise George as one of the friendliest, most knowledgeable and helpful of men, as well as a very strong chess player.
George retired and moved to Spain with his wife Catherine a few years ago after some health problems, where he continued his passion for chess, playing in the local Spanish league and tournaments. He is the current Andalusia 65+ champion and will be sadly missed in both Scotland and Spain.
A full obituary will be published in the February issue of Scottish Chess and I will update this thread as and when I receive further details.

The rules say:
Each club must complete the competition registration form listing the players details, including any existing FIDE registration and must follow the instructions listed on the registration form.
Where can we see these lists of players that have been registered by each club?

Hi all
I am now taking entries for this tournament. There are already eight entries including at least three unnamed players from Dundee. The entries will be listed in the calender. Rules are as before.
Link can be accessed here https://www.chessscotland.com/news-post/...2017-2018/.
Closing date should be December 31st but i will discretionary accept late entries since its the time of festive cheer.
Can all entrants arrange payment of entry fee to Karen Howie or give me the money and I will forward it on.
I'm sure we will again get a bumper entry from the Castlehill crew but it would be nice if we have new entries this year

If you also submit email addresses I will also send draws by email as well as posting on the website. Please alwaays to quote your PNUM when submitting entries

SNCL is on this Sunday.
Just like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and sympathy after I lost my Mam last month. The two cards were lovely and in particular ' Best Wishes for the afterlife' really made me chuckle.
I believe a couple of teams have still to pay me -- please sort it out on Sunday, don't make me Name and Shame at 3pm.
Look forward to seeing you all
GG
