Giant Killer and outside Scotland games display
Posted by: Douglas Bryson - 27-02-2019, 02:26 PM - Forum: Ask the Grader - Replies (1)

There is a problem with the Giant Killer display after today's Feb 27 2019 upload. There is also an issue with the display of opponent names in events outside Scotland. A fix is being sought.

Posted by: Martin Keen - 06-02-2019, 09:49 PM - Forum: Tournaments and Events - No Replies

SIMULTANEOUS DISPLAY - 2.30 p.m., Sunday, 10 March 2019
Focus Centre, Livingstone Place, Galashiels

DAVID KILGOUR, the strongest player currently living in the Borders (2165), has agreed to give a simul at the Focus Centre in Galashiels. David is a correspondence chess Grandmaster.

Refreshments will be available. There will be a small charge of £1 per board to help defray costs.

The Centre will be open from 2.30 and we plan to start by 3, with the last games finishing at around 7 p.m.

David will be white on all boards. Each player has to make a move as soon as the GM comes around, but can 'pass' twice if necessary.

Please email martinkeen@uwclub.net or phone 01750 22965 if you would like to secure a place.

European Team Championships 2019
Batumi, Georgia
23-Oct-2019
3-Nov-2019

Hi all,
Anyone interested in being considered for this team event please contact me via abburnett(at) hotmail.com

No word as yet re: funding and still no details/website of the event itself, but I will be looking to set a deadline of March 31st for interested parties, and a selection deadline of April 14th.

If this sounds a bit early, it's generally because people need to put in their holiday plans at work in advance. Any questions, problems or suggestions feel free to get on touch with me at the address above or add me on FB.

Kind regards,
Andy Burnett
(CS International Director)

  Montenegro tournaments
Posted by: andybburnett - 16-01-2019, 12:44 AM - Forum: Tournaments and Events - No Replies

From FM Goran Tomic:

I am chess organizer and, till now, I have organized 18 chess tournaments (5 GM, 7 IM and 6 FM) in Djenovici, Herceg Novi, Montenegro, Europe.

Those are closed GM and IM tournaments (round robin chess tournaments, 9 rounds), or double rounds (6 players, FM tournament)

The tournaments "Third Saturday" are suitable for players who want to achieve ELO -rating points or /and GM and IM norms.

Maybe you could be interested to play there or some your friends? Maybe some could plan on GM or FM tournament in February, 16-23 February 2019?

Chess tournaments "Third Saturday" are held on the third Saturday in the month (in Hotel Fiammanti, with best possible conditions for playing chess, near the sea in a Bay of Kotor, Montenegro)
Djenovici is a coastal village that is interesting in winter and summer. In February during the Mimosa festival and summer as a perfect family resort with sandy beaches surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean vegetation. Tourist boats from the Djenovici port sail to and from all parts of the Bay of Kotor.

The dates of Third Saturday tournaments:
16-23 February 2019, 16-23 March 2019, 20-27 April 2019, 18-25 May 2019

Take a look at the FIDE website about December GM and IM tournaments: https://www.fide.com/component/content/article/4-tournaments/11338-gm-and-im-chess-tournaments-qthird-saturday-djenovici-montenegroq-.html
