Having been a bit lax in updating progress I can now tell the world:
North East section was won by Declan Shafi, beating Leo Sani in the final round;
West and South East section was won by Ian Brownlee, beating Chris Donkin in the final round.
So Declan and Ian meet in the national final to decide the winner of the Nancy Elder tournament. They meet on 5th May at Stirling Chess Club.

Watching very funny gogglebox on catch up (recommend it). Thought guy was a ringer for Alasdair Stewart newsreader - when he had black hair. Turns out he plays chess.
Why dont you? I am sure that was the programme he presented before or after chess programme where they set you a chess problem and dint tell you till next day - bpc - before PC's - those where the days!
:ymparty: Cant remember name of the programme but it had a catchy tune as well. - Answers on a postacrd

Yellow and Red cards |

To improve standards of etiquette on the noticeboard I would like to propose a card system.
It will be similar to football. A statement which is deemed to be offensive gets a yellow card.
If it is very offensive it gets a red card. Two yellows equals a red. A red card gets a one month ban from the noticeboard
It is not enough for the moderator just to delete a post if a "journalistic error" has occurred. This was much more than an error. A card should be issued in this and other cases. Apologies should given by all parties connected with these posts.
I can expand on examples of yellow and red card statements if required.

Luke Barker's interview and coaching session on the BBC Radio Scotland programme MacAulay and Co, yesterday, can be heard here. If this link does not work with your PC, the programme which was broadcast on 14 April is available on BBC for 7 days. If you listen via the BBC link, the chess part starts at around 01:19:16.
Well done Luke for promoting chess on radio as well as your coaching work.
