Leonid Stein in Scotland - 1968

From the High School of Glasgow Bulletin No. 121-122, 9 February 1968.

Grandmaster Leonid Stein was in devastating form when he took on 25 strong West of Scotland players in Partick Burgh Hall on Friday, 12th January.

He was also in a hurry! In little more than 2 hours he won 20 games, and conceded 5 draws only - to Anne Dempster, Miss Bain [handwritten correction to the originally stated Miss Hogarth], Mrs Steedman, L.J. Stirling, and J. Sutcliffe.

Gerald and Edward Bonner and their helpers are to be congratulated on this successful and enjoyable event.

Here is the score of Sutcliffe's draw.

This photo shows L.J. Stirling, who drew with Stein, seated far right. At the other end of the table is Bernard Partridge. Next to Partridge, at table 21, is James Sutcliffe. The young man standing third from the right looks like Jonathan Lennox, currently of Oban CC.

In the second photo Alan Borwell is at the far left, next to him is Martin Brodie, and then Ken Brown. Third from right in the line of spectators is George Livie.
