6TH Crowwood Open

29 Aug-26 September (Wednesdays)
report by Dave Gillespie

Open Grading:

1st: Eddie Davis (Poly) 5/5 £100
2nd: Gordon MacArainn 4.5 £50

Eddie defeated joint top seed and holder Alistair Maxwell (3.5) in a very tight game that went right to the wire, while Gordon had a nice win as Black over Richard Wiltshire (3).
Out of the 29 other competitors who completed the event, no fewer than 18 shared multiway ties for 3rd (on 3.5), the U-1800 and U-1550 grading prizes, and the slow-starter (0/2) prize.

So I think ecology demands that I pick out the only other "outright" winner, not only because he is a board regular and decent human being but also 'cos he got more than a fiver ...

U-1400 Grading Prize Andy Howie (EK) 2.5 £20

Thanks to all who participated (and the few stalwarts who helped out). As we actually (just) managed 32+ entries for the first time in 6 years, who knows? ... there may even be a 7th CW Open in 2004 ...
