World Cup - Tromso 2013
#1
This has been a great tournament to watch so far and with only the semifinals and finals to go looks like there will be more exciting chess to come.

What about peoples favourite games from this tournament? for me.. well

Best game
Rd 4 game 1 Kamsky - Mamedyarov
A 30 move game where Kamsky offers pieces all over the place

[pgn]1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nc6 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.f4 d6 7.Be3 Nf6 8.Qf3 a6 9.Bd3 Be7 10.0-0 0-0 11.Kh1 Bd7 12.Rae1 b5 13.a3 Rab8 14.Nxc6 Bxc6 15.Qh3 Rfd8 16.Bd2 d5 17.e5 Ne4 18.f5 Nxd2 19.fxe6 Ne4 20.exf7+ Kh8 21.Nxd5 Bxd5 22.Rxe4 g6 23.Ref4 Kg7 24.e6 Rf8 25.Qe3 Bc5 26.Qe1 Bd6 27.Rh4 Be7 28.Qe3 h5 29.Qd4+ Kh6 30.Rxh5+[/pgn]

Most interesting to watch live
Rd 4 game 8 Tomashevsky - Morozevich
All 169 moves, in a 10 minute + increments game that runs for over 1 hour

Best ending
Rd 4 game 4 Svidler - Le
Only because of the technique and speed at which Svidler finished off a K+N+B v K, with less than 2 minutes on the clock from move 124 - 135.
--- I can do it, but certainly not in less than 2 minutes and taking only 10 moves to force resignation.

Try it!

For sheer entertainment value I rather enjoyed Shimanov-Kamsky. David Oswald started getting terrifically excited about it on move 2, and the resultant blunder-fest was, if not exactly the best game of recent times, certainly quite fun.

Some of the chess on show has been superb. Shimanov-Kamsky was fantastic but the winner might be the whole match Tomashevski-Morozevich.

Tomashevski winning as black in the 2nd classical game to take it to tiebreaks and finishes it in spectacular fashion, declining a mate in one as the draw would do Smile.

Still fancy Big Vlad to win it despite not showing his best form but looking forward to a few more tiebreaks.

Watched this live and was without doubt the most engaging piece of live chess I have ever watched. When Moro lost patience and grabbed the a-pawn it was quite remarkable. Generally live coverage has been taken to a new level here. Only problem is my family are now completely convinced I have lost it watching live chess all day on internet Sad

I agree on Kramnik. Still the class act in town. What he calls mistakes are simply undetectable to me. Arguably played best chess in candidates as well and in fact would have won under many tie break rules. btw - Definition of "tie break" (for the Scottish Chess Championship regulars) = "when you decide who was the winner rather than wimp out divvying up the prize fund amongst the top boards who all took a quick draw in final round" ;P

But hang on...wait a minute...what am I doing...talking chess on CS forum.... (best stop quick) Errm...Peter Walsh for President! Lets abolish the constitution!....more money for the juniors!...more chess for girls! (any better?)

Did you see that one today? How MVL escaped that I'll never know.

Obviously Sreeves found a win...

Kramnik - Tomashevski final with big Vlad taking it on Armageddon.

Having seen the posts, thought I might watch some of this -rapid playoffs - glad I did...

Too easy for Vlad today, Maxime self-destructed in game 1 and was never going to win as Black against Kramnik.

Dmitry Andreikin was impressive at speed - Tomashevky couldn't stay with it.

Good post-match interviews. Especially when Anastasia Karlovich was brought in as interpreter. She's also the official photgrapher and a former Ukranian Girls champion. Such talent! (google her to see what I mean!)

Beginning to look like Krammik in 3.

Excellent game today, great entertainment as well. His post game analysis is second to none!
