Inverness Chess Congress
#61
One thing that was particularly nice to see was a fair number of Inverness based players playing in the event. The club has been struggling for numbers recently and hopefully this event and the congress in June will help in that respect. A couple of the local competitors I spoke to were an Inverness based GP and a guy that mainly concentrates on online/correspondence chess. They were both decent players (and nice guys into the bargain) who would be welcome at any club.
On a similar line, I was wondering if anyone had considered or is considering trying to resurrect a congress in the Hawick/ Borders area. I always enjoyed heading down there to play in their friendly well organised events.
The importance of active well attended clubs can never be underestimated and a local congress event can help a great deal. Hopefully the Dumfries allegro can establish itself as a fixture on the calender with perhaps a full congress a possible in the future.

Inverness Congress grading results are now available. Thanks to Andy Howie for processing them. Not sure when he managed to do that.

A possible chess venue that has been considered in the past. The Glorney 2014 is is in the excellent location of Stirling University.

Apologies if anyone feels it is inappropriate to include this email in a possible discussion for future events at communities outwith the central belt but big Paul MacDonald was passionate about including everyone in every corner of the chess community throughout Scotland in national and international events.

I share his passion. We are ChessScotland, representing all areas and communities in or great country. Any and every location must be considered and hopefully supported.

Believe it or not David and I bumped into each other in Fort William on the way home!

I have relatives who live in Fort William and surrounding areas. Big Grin Great opportunity to visit a few of them, nail a few Munros and play some Chess all in one weekend. ;P

There are certainly plenty of Munro's in the Fort William vicinity. Many years ago I completed the 4000 footers in a single day. The Mamores, 10 linked Munro's, which can be completed in a single extremely long day are very close by. However I do not see how you could combine climbing any of them with playing a chess congress in a single weekend.
