overseas junior international event costs

I note the regulations now published for the Euroyouth 2016 in Prague...

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fide.com/images/stories/FIDE_Calendar_2016/EYCC-2016.pdf">http://www.fide.com/images/stories/FIDE ... C-2016.pdf</a><!-- m -->

3.3. The organization fee of 150 EUR for covering part of accommodation expenses, required for each invited
player, player with a personal right and the chief of delegation must be paid by 30th June 2016.

In the Porec Euroyouth 2015 regulations...

3.3. The organisation fee of 100 EUR for covering part of accommodation expenses, required for each invited player* (2.1) , players with a personal right (2.2) and the chief of delegation must be paid until August 20, 2015.

Up until now the 100 Euro "organisation fee" is fairly standard for this and similar events.

This year Prague looks easily by far the best individual tournament for Scottish players from a travel and transfer point of view, certainly compared to the World Youth event, ludicrously located in Khanty-Mansiysk in deepest Russia, two or three planes and a dog sled or two away.

I can't help feeling that the Prague organisers, maybe to a small extent, are cashing in.

Just quickly (as I am here in Prague at the moment) the cost of accommodation is far higher here than in almost every other place to the east of Germany.

The hotel looks great, but it's miles from the city centre!

Andy,
At first sight it looks like you hopped on first available plane to answer from Prague so quickly.

The 100 Euro fee I recall as being standard back in 2008. It seems nothing is free - one frequently has to pay an admin fee to collect. It was a similar story a few months back when I won the Nigerian lottery.

Its concerning though that FIDE have sanctioned a massive 50 % hike in the charge. I would expect 150 Euro to be the norm from now ..... until the next increase.

For sending juniors abroad it's not as simple as finding cheaper and more cost effective events. There is nothing like a world championship to secure a headmasters consent for absence during term time.

EU Youth (also in Czech Republic) regulations now published...

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.europechess.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/EUYCC_2016_regulations.pdf">http://www.europechess.org/wp-content/u ... ations.pdf</a><!-- m -->

This is slightly longer to travel to than the Euroyouth Prague event.

3. Registration - Conditions of participation
Registration forms must be sent back no later than June 30th, 2016 by email.
Registration has to include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE or National rating of each
player. We also need the telephone, email/fax number of the delegation head and of the person in charge
of the federation. Please use the registration form enclosed. All travel expenses must be paid by the
participants or their National Federation. Each player (invited or extra) has to pay the amount of EUR 70
to the Organizing Committee in advance.

The EU Youth is an excellent event but possibly doesn't have the prestige of the Euroyouth.

Euroyouth "organising fee"-150 Euros. EU Youth "organising fee"- 70 Euros.

Euroyouth entry fee- 65 Euros invited players, 130 Euros extra players. EU entry fee- 0 Euros all players.

World Youth 2016 (U14,U16,U18) regulations now published...

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fide.com/images/stories/FIDE_Calendar_2016/Invitation_for_FIDE_World_Youth_U14_U16_U18_Championships_2016_in_Khanty-Mansiysk.pdf">http://www.fide.com/images/stories/FIDE ... nsiysk.pdf</a><!-- m -->

4. FIDE Entry Fee and Organizing fee
4.1 Every player shall pay an Entry Fee in amount of 70 Euros in accordance with
FIDE Regulations. This amount must be sent directly to FIDE by their National
Federation before the event.
4.2 Every additional player shall pay an Entry Fee of 140 Euros in accordance with
the FIDE Regulations. This amount must also be sent directly to FIDE by their National
Federation before the event.
4.3 Every player (hosted, additional or by personal right) and every accompanying
person shall pay an Organizing fee of 70 Euros (until the 20th of July, 2016).

That looks pretty standard. The travel is far from straightforward though..

«Utair» company performs daily flights from Moscow to Khanty-Mansiysk and back
according to the following schedule (local time for each airport):
UT-351 Moscow (Vnukovo) 22:30 – Khanty-Mansiysk 03:40
UT-352 Khanty-Mansiysk 05:30 – Moscow (Vnukovo) 06:30

The nearest airports to Khanty-Mansiysk are Surgut (300 km), Nizhnevartovsk (510
km), Tyumen (670 km), Yekaterinburg (996 km). The air company «Utair» performs
direct air flights from these towns to Khanty-Mansiysk. You can get from Surgut to
Khanty-Mansiysk by regular bus as well (travel time is 4 hours).

I'm curious as to the point you are making?
"How sad to see, what used to be, a model of decorum and tranquility become like any other sport, a battleground for rival ideologies to slug it out with glee"

I wonder what will happen to any Scotland, Wales and England juniors that have made plans to play in the EU Youth if the UK votes to leave the EU on the 23rd June?

1. It will take a fair bit of time (possibly even a year or two) for the legislation to go through Parliament. If it such an occasion can even effect events organised by the ECU.

2. The UK is voting whether or not to leave the EU, not Europe!

3. The ECU (European Chess Union) is a much larger part of Europe and is not restricted to the EU

4. The EU has 28 member states, ECU has 44 member Federations.

In summary - no effect at all

Jim,

I was referring to the EU youth event (details on fourth post on this thread) which is for nations that are in the EU.
