Chess is recognised as a sport by the IOC.
It might appear in the Paralympics, that is an aim of FIDE

I don't think is recognised by the IOC yet but here's hoping. The problem as I see it is that if the IOC recognises it then FIDE would be superseded by the IOC during the Olympics and Idont think FIDE would allow that nor would the IOC allow FIDE to run it

Chess was recognised as a sport by the IOC in the 90's
Not all sports are in the Olympics.
It is FIDE's ambition to get chess into the olympics
