James Gillespies High will be traveling to Durham on Friday to play Queen Elizabeth Grammer School of Wakefield in the Zone Final for the Yateley Manor Schools' Competition. They look like a very useful side, with James Bowler on bd 1 ( ~ 1980), but reasonably evenly matched on grade over all. Our main problem is that as they are a younger side we will need to win by at least a whole point I think because of the age handicap.

Good luck to James Gillespies!
I have fond memories of playing in the Times as it used to be called.
I recall winning on age handicap once or twice as well.
We also made it to the final of the Times Plate back in 2001 and got absolutely stuffed 6-0. In fairness we lost our Board 1 as he was on his summer holidays and we were all playing up. Good times.

The final score was a rather impressive 5-1 in JGHS favour - with the last two results being draws for Jonny & Captiva.
Well done to both the players and Hugh Brechin, who kindly escorted the team to and (hopefully) back from Durham.

Phenomenal! Congratulations to JGHS!
Any idea who you are likely to get in the next round?

We await news of the next round...however I believe from the fact we were lumped with other schools this year from last year will probably avoid last year's winners and the team that knocked us out, Manchester Grammer. Which would be a good thing!
Trouble is that there are plenty of other strong teams out there!

Heather,
Thanks for the link.
Am I correct in my understanding that James Gillespie's will be playing the winner of Yarm School & Queen Elizabeth Grammar School?
The winners of Group B & C need to playoff for the right to play JGHS and I'm guessing these two are the candidates as they have 'Zone Runner-up' & 'Group Winner' against their names. Not sure though.

You're absolutely correct in your deductions, except that that's already happened!
QEGS won their match against Yarm, and the match on Friday was between them and JGHS. So the team have already won the Scotland and the North zone, and it's a question of what happens next.

Makes more sense when you say it like that. I obviously wasn't awake this morning... 8)
So now you play the waiting game until after the 26th when the last chance saloon is played?
Btw, It might just be me but I find that website to be very confusing. ;|
