Hello all,
Over the last year, an EDI (equality, diversity & inclusion) focus group has been started (in tandem with another focus group seeking views from female chess participants) as part of Chess Scotland's goals to actively promote diversity and inclusion within the Scottish chess community.
One of the group's aims is to work on a process by which the representation and views of the wider Scottish chess community can be sought around topics including the nature of our chess community and how accepting, tolerant and respectful the community culture is of people with different views and from different backgrounds. There are many positive things that have been reflected on in the focus group but it would be helpful to know whether this is reflected more widely.
If you are interested in joining our work, it would be great to hear from you! Our next meeting is on the 16th of September. Please feel free to get in touch with me, Ruairidh McKay, Chess Scotland Administration Director (& currently Diversity Officer as well but it would be great to think about delegating this to somebody else at some point!). Either private message me on the forum or alternatively, my email address is in the Contacts section of the website.

I'm surprised there is now going to be a council meeting as late as October 1st I thought there should have been one no later than the beginning of August, and ideally no later than May to facilitate discussing the new fixture fees as they are determined by council
Personally I think discussing council matters well into the new season is much too late, but better than no Council meeting at all.
Since I am no longer on council, am I allowed to attend and/or participate. I also have a few pertinent points but that will be at the AGM. I am also curious what is coming up at the council meeting, which I will find particularly interesting, including input from council members on several matters.

Back again after that glorious summer we have just had, get a quick 5 games in before the club gets back, always a good idea.
2 sections, and a blitz on Saturday night, 44 places left at the moment, go here, for details and entry.
Usual sites for results and pairings are here and here.
Late fees will start applying after today, so get in before then to save yourself the cost of your coffee with you lunch.
No plans for live boards this time, I believe, I am prepared to be corrected.
See you there, it'll be fun, promise.

Hi all,
Hope the beginning of August is treating you well.
Lanarkshire has form with regard to offering a competition in August for those who are missing a bit of weekly chess whilst waiting for their respective own club nights and leagues to start again. A fair few have entered but there is plenty of space for some last minute entries before Round 1 starts on Monday.
Feel free to have a look at the details on the Chess Scotland calendar. I have added a link to the chess-results page so you can see who has entered. I will do the draw on the Sunday evening at 9pm for each round (edit note: changed from 10pm) so there is plenty of notice for you if you are given a bye. Currently with a few people requesting a Round 1 bye anyway, we are expecting even numbers for Round 1 but this could of course change with late entries.
Lastly, please note that that Round 5 will now be on the 9th of September, not the 2nd.
