Junior Review – CS Members' Meeting

28 October 2007

recommendations

If you keep a regular watch on the CS Noticeboard, you are probably aware that I originally planned to hold a meeting this past weekend to allow CS members to debate the Junior Review which was carried out last season and the recommendations contained in the resulting Report. It became clear, however, that the junior tournament being held in Wester Hailes would prevent the attendance of two key CS Directors, and I also realised that I had not done enough to advertise the meeting and to allow those who might wish to attend enough time to read the Report and consider its recommendations. I therefore postponed the meeting.

The chess calendar these days is so crowded that the first available date for the meeting appears to be Sunday 16 December, so provisionally I'm aiming to hold the meeting then. It's uncomfortably close to Christmas, and if anyone who is particularly keen to attend the meeting will have problems with that date I'd appreciate it if they could let me know – I want a good attendance, representative of the full range of views within Chess Scotland, and if I have to push the meeting back to mid-January or even early February in order to get that I'm prepared to do it. But having said that, I would certainly much prefer to hold the meeting in 2007 rather than in 2008, and I think I'm not alone in holding that preference.

I'm slightly surprised at the small number of people who have asked me for copies of the Report (though perhaps those who have got copies from me have passed them on to others). At any rate, I'm still happy to email a copy to anybody who wants one (contact me at president@chessscotland.com ).

Between now and the meeting, it may be useful to start a debate on the recommendations in the Report. In case anybody wants to begin that debate on the Noticeboard, the recommendations are listed in Section 7 of the Report. It's not practical to list all the recommendations here, so I'll get that section of the Report posted on the news page shortly (I can't publish the whole document here, but a single section is not a problem). Be aware that some of the recommendations in the full Report are not in the Executive Summary which has been published here.
