August 14th, 2012

Minutes of Council Meeting held on 18th March 2012

PVG presentation (requires powerpoint)

Notice: In accordance with the wishes of the Ayrshire Chess Association, a Special General Meeting of Chess Scotland will be held at the Bothwell Bowling Club, Station Road, Bothwell G71 8EB at 12:00 on Sunday 18th March, 2012.

Given the closeness of the Council Meeting, to avoid travelling twice for a meeting in 6 days, we have also decided to move the date of the Council Meeting to the same and this will take place after the SGM.

The agenda for the SGM is as follows:

1.   Proposal from Ayrshire Chess Association to modify the standards code (pdf)

2.   That eligibility requirements for Scottish representation be amended to bring it in line with most sports in the UK, such that “Were either or both of the player’s parents born in Scotland?” is changed to “Were any of the player’s parents or grandparents born in Scotland?”

3.  The following be added to the constitution as both 13.8 and 14.8 “Any change to the constitution requires the support of at least 2/3rds of the votes cast.”

The first proposal is from the Ayrshire Chess Association, the second two are proposed and Seconded by Andy Howie and Mike Hanley.

Following the SGM, the Council Meeting will be held.  Please can all items for agenda be sent to Andy Howie ( by 11th March and the Agenda will be published on Monday 12th March.  The meeting will close no later that 17:00.
