The pairings finally came up about 2pm.

Murad is on board 2: http://www.wycc2012.com/liveg.html and click on 12-0 at the top left.

Position on move 23 looks winning for black. Sad

We were whitewashed today which is never nice. It was the usual story, outgraded by miles on all boards, basically hoping we can dig in and pick up a point here or there. Sadly it wasn't to be but hopefully we can move on a bit in round two. Some great efforts particularly from Kai, Sam, Andrew, Murad and Colin but nothing to show for it. Tomorrow is another day.

I have just been checking the 2nd round draw and at least we will be scoring tomorrow, but for the wrong reasons. Colin is playing Murad. It really peeves me right off when a small squad like ours treks across Europe to play at this premier event and we find two of our guys drawn against each other. It makes the coaching and the players feel at the least awkward. However, both of them and their coaches will be trying their hardest for the full point.
The Scotland squad have adopted the Andrew Green strategy of "if there are any winning chances whatsoever you play to the end".

Oh that's rubbish! Sad I wish the organisers would swap players in situations like that. There can't be a shortage of alternatives on similar points etc, surely? :\

Much happier today with everything. Coaching rota/internet access etc working fine. Having two recognised official coaches is giving us options and making things so much easier for everyone.
Yesterday was so disorganised it was beyond belief, the worst thing being the draw never appeared on the scene till around 2, half an hour before the opening ceremony. To give ourselves a reasonable chance of getting anything against much higher graded opponents, we really need to have done as much quality prep as possible. That couldn't happen yesterday.
It's a tough day again today but not as bad as yesterday so we are hoping for a better day.

Well, a better day points wise with Daniel and Murad winning and Anna, Liam and Sam drawing. So three and a half points which we are happy with at this tough early stage and we will move on to the next day.
Everyone seems very happy with the coaching setup we have so hoping to build on it over the course of the tournament.

virtually everyone massively outgraded so its good to see some decent results . Sam's draw vs 2090 is pretty solid Big Grin .

Excellent result for Daniel and a typically aggressive win. I had a fair idea what was coming next after h6. Well played, keep up the good work.
