Marymass 2015 results

This year's congress was held at the Atrium, Greenwood Academy, Dreghorn on August 21-23 2015.

Results and commentary by Steve Clark.

Open: 1st= S Mannion (Paisley), N.Berry (Edinburgh), Luis J S Botello (Glas.Montrose) 4/5.
Grading Prize: S Robinson (Ardrossan) 3/5.

Major: 1st N Lindsay (Glas.Montrose) 4.5/5.
2nd = D P Gillespie (Greenwood), A Lampard (Troon) 4/5.
Grading Prize: A Keith Aitchison (Kelso) 3/5.

Minor: 1st= L Freel (Hamilton), S Kerridge (Bearsden) 4.5/5.
Grading Prize: J Dempsey (Yoker) 4/5.

Open
Round 1: All top players won except D Hamilton who lost to S Robinson
Round 2: Robinson mated Spanish FM Botello, otherwise things carried on as normal.
Round 3: Robinson held Scottish Champion FM Neil Berry to a fighting draw and WFM Joy Durno had her first
result with a win over Alastair Dawson.
Round 4: McKay and Mannion drew top board. WFM Bamber finally ended the run of Robinson, all the other games
went to form.
Round 5: Mannion and Berry had quick draw. Botello turned down a draw against McKay. Everyone thought McKay
was winning but eventually lost the game. All the other games finished drawn or the higher graded player
won.

Major
Round 1: Games went to the higher players except Hilton losing to junior D'Costa and Spanish player Rubio
Rodriguez who lost to Robertson of East Kilbride. Hilton withdrew and the Spaniard never came back.
Round 2: Results went with grades except Paul McDonald won against Hall of Perth. D'Costa held Gillespie to
a draw.
Round 3: D'Costa drew against McPheator, otherwise no shocks.
Round 4: DM Gillespie and A Lampard strike for home with all other games going as routine.
Round 5: Lindsay beat DM Gillespie and DP Gillespie sunk outsider Potts whilst Alice Lampard downed
Aitchison - the other games went to form.

Minor
Round 1: Games went to grade except L Tang of Lenzie beat Cassidy some 500 grading points higher.
Round 2: Tang struck again against Doris some 400 grading points higher.
Round 3: Kerridge, Freel and dark horse Dempsey all won against Tang, Douglas and D'Alessio respectivelly.
Dallas was turned over by O Dutta some 400 points grade lower other games went to form
Round 4: Dempsey and Kerridge drew while Freel beat Fraser in a tight struggle. Other games ended with top
graded players winning.
Round 5: Final round saw Freel and Dempsey have a quick draw while Kerridge went all the way to beat Doris.
Tang blundered against fellow club member D'Alessio blowing the grading prize. Keegan managed to win against
Ridge after having a weekend to forget - all other games going with the higher graded players.
