Jonathan Rowson and Cherie Booth awards
Jonathan Rowson and Cherie Booth awards.
As you may have seen, the awards for the Jonathan Rowson and Cherie Booth awards have just appeared on the website. The voting for these took place back in April / May and for reasons that I will go into shortly, it appears that only one of the winners was notified.
Chess Scotland has let down the two winners, Ali for the fact the the award was given to her and not publicised and even worse, Ian, as he was was never notified at all. It is only through the recent enquiries of his father, Angus as to who the recipient was that this has come to light.
So what caused this to happen?
On speaking with the people involved, it has become apparent that this has been caused by an unfortunate series of coincidences. The person responsible for the announcement believed it had been done on the previous Chess Scotland website and that it had gone to archive when the website had been updated over the summer. Unfortunately this was not the case and it appears that the announcement was missed in the changeover between the 2 sites.
The changes adopted in the most recent Chess Scotland Council meeting ensure that this can never happen again, unfortunately they came in too late to have prevented this.
Finally, and most importantly, on behalf of Chess Scotland, we would like to apologise profusely to both Ian and Ali for what has happened. This should never have happened and from the lessons learned it should not happen again in future.
We are grateful to Angus for bringing this to our attention promptly to allow a swift resolution to this.
Regards
Mike Hanley Andy Howie
