Cherie Booth Award
This year’s Cherie Booth award goes to Anna Milton from Aberdeen.
Anna has been a regular around the congress scene as well as for her club, Bon Accord and internationally. Despite being 14 she’s the highest rated U17 girl.
She has been very active this year recently making the step up to Challenger level events, with Opens not far off the horizon. The highlight of her chess nationally was when she came second in the Lothian’s major with an undefeated 4/5.
Anna plays locally for Bon Accord and their All Stars team where she competes against other clubs around Aberdeenshire. Internationally Anna has been busy, representing Scotland at various events including the Faber cup, the European Union Youth and the Euro Youth. She also participated in the main championship in the Commonwealth Chess Championships in the summer.
Anna also regularly helps in giving back to the community, she is very keen on coaching at her local Primary School and at her local Boy’s Brigade. She has helped with arbiting and coaching at junior events in the North East and was on hand to help at the Primary Individual, passing on her knowledge to the players there.
Chess Scotland would also like to mention Rachel Smith.
Rachel had an excellent year, winning many times in Primary events, including Ayrshire Primary Champion, 1st= Chess Scotland Girl’s Primary and a bronze medal for girls in the U12 Commonwealth Championships.
She also came second in her section of the Grand Prix while doubling her rating.
