42nd Team Lightning 2017
Twenty-one teams took part in the 2017 Scottish Team Lightning Championship on Sunday 26 March, once again a good entry and an increase on last year. The event was again held after the conclusion of the SNCL at the new Dunfermline venue. The number of last minute entries again made it difficult to organise, but this is inevitable given the arrangements and the timing has certainly increased the numbers. “Normal service” was resumed as Hamilton flattened the opposition to win by a large margin – the largest since 1986. Last year’s winners, Bon Accord, took part but with a much weaker team, finishing as runners-up in Section 2. Report by Ken Stewart
The arbiters had more issues to deal with than usual, nearly all relating to illegal moves in different varieties.
For Hamilton Joe Redpath and Steve Mannion scored 10/11, Andrew Muir had 10½ and Pat Coffey had 10. For Dundee A, Ed Spencer scored 12/12 and for Stepps Douglas Bryson had 10/11.
Final Section 2 was won by Wandering Dragons on 22/28.
Final Section 3 was won by the junior team Zebras on 22/32.
