The first Carse of Gowrie Allegro Chess Congress, sponsored by Inchture Hotel, attracted almost 80 players from throughout Scotland, more than half being juniors. The prizewinners were:-

Kings and Queens:
Colin McNab (Dundee) 4.5 pts., Ed Spencer & David Findlay (both Dundee), David Fowler (Bon Accord) and Ian Marks (Cumbernauld) all 4 pts.

Rooks:
William Harkins (Benarty), 4.5pts., Peter Devenny (Cathcart), Adam Shannon (Dollar) and Andrew McCulloch (Giffnock) all 4 pts.

Knights (Secondary Schools):
Ben He (Sciennes), Max Allison (Edinburgh) and Sarat Roy (Kinross) all 4 pts., Aaron Lewis (Giffnock) 3.5 pts.

Pawns (Primary Schools) :
Stefan Robertson (Edinburgh) 5 pts., Wenbo Chen (Sciennes), Declan Shafi & Qing Qing Zhu (both Carse of Gowrie) all 4pts., Adam Legge (Carse of Gowrie) 3.5pts
