Lothian v Lanarkshire

The Education Centre at Edinburgh Zoo hosted the annual match between the primary school teams of Lothian and Lanarkshire. This was the third meeting of the teams and, prior to this encounter, it was all square at 1-1 so there was everything to play for. IM Craig Pritchett attended the match and, together with Tom Donohue, provided immediate analysis of the childrens' games. It was a close and exciting encounter with Lanarkshire eventually prevailing 13.5 - 10.5 (individual results below). Craig chose the 1st round match between Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Filmer for the best game award with both competitors receiving prizes.

Preview: Each team will consist of 12 primary school children that have gained selection to the teams on merit. The teams will include junior Scottish internationalists and a current British champion.

Play will commence at 10am and the prizes/medals/trophies will be awarded between 12:30 and 1pm. Each player will play 2 games of chess and there will be a Best Game Prize selected by attending chess master Craig Pritchett - both players will receive a prize in acknowledgement of the fact that it takes 2 players to create a great game of chess!
