CHESS SCOTLAND CHESS SUPPLIERS

30th SCOTTISH TEAM LIGHTNING CHAMPIONSHIP

(Grangemouth - Sunday 12 December 2004)

In a very close contest the Hamilton team came through as winners for the second consecutive year. Edinburgh West again came very close, beating Hamilton in the penultimate round, and would have won had they achieved a 4-0 against Edinburgh B in the last round. As last year, however, they lost their final match. Cathcart produced a solid performance to finish third. Multiple winners Shettleston had lost one of their team to Hamilton and another to a birthday party and with two substitutes of much lower quality did well to come fifth. Lanark celebrated their 60th anniversary with the inclusion of 2 “old boys” and produced a good result.

For the winners, Patrick Coffey had their top individual score of 11/13, Andrew Muir had 10.5 while Joe Redpath and Steven Tweedie scored 10. For Edinburgh West, Jonathan Grant had 10.5/14,, Paul Roberts 12, Neil Farrell 12 and George Neave 10.5. Steve Mannion had 12/14 for Cathcart. The tournament, sponsored by Chess Suppliers was supported by 17 teams, a drop on last season's figure, but typical of the fluctuating numbers the event attracts.
