Team Lightning

Another year, and still no end in sight to Shettleston Chess Club's domination of the lightning chess scene. Shettleston are again Scottish Team Lightning champions after a hard fought but clear victory in which they defeated all their opponents by at least 3-1 and scoring more points than for several years. Shettleston have now won the title in eighteen of the last twenty-three years. The strong Cathcart team finished second, with Edinburgh in third place.

For the winners, Douglas Bryson and Andrew Muir respectively scored 12½ and 12/13 on the top boards. Graeme Nolan had a perfect 13 and Jim Doyle scored 11. For the runners-up, Roddy Mckay had 10, Steve Mannion 12, Alan Grant 11 and Robert Mitchell 9½. The tournament, sponsored by Everyman Publishers and Chess Suppliers (Scotland) was well supported by 20 teams.
