Kasparov visit to Edinburgh - cancelled

The Scotsman Challenge - in Check

Garry Kasparov was scheduled to make a historic visit to Edinburgh on November 4 to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Edinburgh Chess Club's formation. The world champion was to play a six board clock simultaneous against a Scottish Olympiad select.

The Challenge was to take place at the Usher Hall with financial backing from Scotsman Newspapers.

For some undisclosed reason the Scotsman declined to proceed with the event - Kasparov's fee was reputed to be $30,000.

Is the matter finished here? Will Gazza want some compensation for lost earnings?

It's an ill wind.... the match organiser declined to involve the SCA at any stage of the contest!
