Alan Tate, 31, continued his recent form surge by recording an IM norm at the Cappelle Open in northern France with a score of 6/9.

Neil Berry, also Edinburgh, already had two IM norms and needed a final round win against a 2150 to complete the set but was given a 2090. A draw, no norm and 5/9.

Both players added another GM scalp to their collection.

Cappelle now in its 27th year had 570 players, of whom 71 were GM, 54 IMs.
