U16 Olympiad
#21
Looks like a fantastic tournament. Does anyone know if it is match points or game points?

Appears to be game points. It's a shame Ali missed 40.Nf1+ Kf4 41.Rxf5+! The rook ending looks like black might hold now.

Good spot.

On the subject of Andrew's opponent, not sure I've ever seen an under-16 CM before.

I missed the end of the games. I can't believe we did not beat the number 8 seeds. I am guessing Shivan and Sam were in horrendous time trouble. He appears to have missed 48. Qxf5+ winning the rook!

Looking for the good players out there, is Sam's not fairly drawn?

if Kxe4 (forced as Kf6 is a mate in 4) then Rxg3+

Great effort today. They are certainly doing us proud!

Can't claim to be a good player but I agree that Shivan and Sam were very unlucky. Must have been time trouble because I reckon Sam can certainly play on and Shivan is totally winning until the last few moves. I guess you are right and it must have been time trouble.

Was a wee bit disappointed tonight when I got back from work to see that we had lost the 3 remaining games to be completed this afternoon (Ali had drawn before I left). It looks as though we may have got something more from all four games and can consider ourselves unlucky not to have done so. A great effort today from everyone, keep it going, we are all right behind and following you in every move of every game.

Games are already underway at the Kartepe Stadium where Scotland face the SA A team.

Nice game again today from Andrew.

One thought when watching is that there are quite a few games reducing down to blitz at a much earlier stage (in terms of moves played) than normal, with final results being decided as usual by blunders at this stage. This suggest to me that our players there must think clearly about this and use it to their advantage if at all possible.

And secondly players should think about the event time controls before they go to it and make sure they get familiar with them in real games as part of their pre-event prep.

I am feeling sorry for Shivan and Sam, their results are not reflecting their play.

Mike, show me an event in Scotland where we have a time control like that. I like the time control but we seem to have too many going to blitz which is where I think we went wrong yesterday.

My head and heart are both telling me we are going to win this afternoon.

Andrew and Ali are scoring some excellent points for the team. if we can convert the positions into points on the boards we are going to get a run of wins
