The website also has a mobile format for easy reading on all those new-fangled phones.

To help families I have reduced junior entry fees for under 17's and have brought in a family discount. The revised entry fees for these categories are on the website but to make it easy here they are below.

Anyone who has already paid and has now overpaid will be refunded at the congress.

ENTRY FEES
ADULTS - £25
JUNIORS (under 17 at 24/01/2014) - £17 REDUCED

DISCOUNTS
Chess Scotland members may deduct £2.

FAMILY RATES
DEDUCT £10 per additional family member.
1 adult, 1 junior under 17, 1 junior aged 18 (all CS members) pay 2 x £25 + 1 x £17 = £67, less 3 x CS Discount of £2 = £61, less 2 x additional family member of £10 = £41 Total to pay.

ROUND 1

The allocation of colours for round 1 will be determined by the number of moves for white in the Giri v Aronian game in round 8 of the Tata Steel Masters currently taking place in Holland. The match takes place on Tuesday, January 21st. An odd number of moves and the higher rated player on board one in all sections of the South Ayrshire Congress will have the white pieces. An even number of white moves by Giri and the higher rated player has black.

The game can be watched live at http://www.tatasteelchess.com/tournament/livegames

May we infer from this that the draw for round 1 at Ayr will therefore be made and published on Tuesday after the Giri-Aronian game?

Entry form says entries by Wednesday and I will probably take entries via e-mail or answer machine on Thursday (I'll be out all day until late) so no draw until Friday I'm afraid. I will keep entries up to date though and the list late Thursday/early Friday should be the full list (with byes on the congress website) so probable opponents can be educationally guessed.

The Giri v Aronian game ended in a 48 move draw. The result of this is that the higher rated player on board 1 of all events at the South Ayrshire Congress will have the black pieces in round 1.

The list of entrants on the CS website and the congress website are both up to date at the present time and I would ask all players to check their name is listed in the correct section. Can players also please check the list of round 1 byes and notify me of any ommissions or errors by e-mail, preferably before 11am on Friday morning.

Thanks for your help.

Apologies for the delay. It's been a busy week. Here are the prizewinners for last weeks event. Once they have been countersigned on Tuesday I will be posting cheques to the prize winners who were unable to attend the prize giving and also to the cross-sectional winners.

Thanks again to everyone who played. I hope it was an enjoyable congress and I see you all again at the same venue for the Ayr Congress during the late May Bank Holiday, Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th.
