Ayr Junior Saturday - May 25th
#1
The Ayr Junior Saturday takes place this weekend at the Mecure Hotel in Ayr and will run alongside the Ayr Congress. The tournament control team will be Stephen Taylor of Greenwood Academy and myself.

More details can be found here - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ayrshirechesscongress.co.uk/AyrJuniorSaturday.html">http://www.ayrshirechesscongress.co.uk/ ... urday.html</a><!-- m --> or here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://ayrshirejuniorchess.co.uk/events/junior-saturday/ayr-may-2013/ayr-saturday-entry-form.html">http://ayrshirejuniorchess.co.uk/events ... -form.html</a><!-- m -->

Entry is open to all players and not just players from Ayrshire. All games will count for grading and there will be prizes, cups, medals and prize money.

Due to a generous donation I am now able to offer free entry to the Ayr Junior Saturday event to all players. Those that have already paid will have their entry fee refunded on Saturday morning at the event.

=)

As there are less than 20 entries at the moment for the Saturday Junior event, the plan is to run it in the same way as the recent Prestwick Junior Saturday, where we just had one big group and mixed them all in.

Deadline for entries for the Junior Saturday will be tomorrow night (Thursday, May 23rd) at 9pm.

The Saturday Junior event, will be run as one big section, like top European events, with prizes spread throughout the tournament. For example, there will be a prize for top player without a live grade.

Parking - there are a limited number of hotel car park spaces. There are plenty of other parking options. The multi-storey car park next to the hotel is normally 50p an hour but does close at 7pm on the Saturday.

For those who don't mind a 5 to 10 minute walk I would suggest the free car parks near Cromwell Road.

A full list of Ayr Car Parks with opening times and prices can be found at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/parking/carpark_prices.aspx">http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/parkin ... rices.aspx</a><!-- m -->

An interactive map of parking in Ayr can be found here - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/parking/parking_maps.aspx">http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/parkin ... _maps.aspx</a><!-- m -->

Ayr will be busy on Saturday, so please plan your journey to give you plenty time to park and enjoy the short walk to the venue. The forecast for Saturday is sunny.

The sponsor is very happy to promote junior chess and was delighted to offer the opportunity for kids to take part at no cost.

We had 22 very well behaved children who enjoyed the day, which was superbly run by Stephen Taylor. A huge thanks to him. Thanks also to the parents and the kids.

Results and grading performances will appear on the congress websites soon. The overall winner was Tom Laing of Prestwick with an impressive 6 1/2 out of 7.
