David, there's a glitch in the score at Move 12 (missing space).

Today Craig won again - so he will definitely be on the live games again tomorrow.

Phil also won (nicely) and so did I (started well but blundered twice and was probably lost - but it's the last mistake that counts!)

Alan once again lost to a strong Russian IM and he's hoping not to get one tomorrow!

Craig's rating performance of 2893 is amazing. Making Scotland proud.... again! Big Grin

Unfortunately Craig lost today and now has 3/4. Phil drew and Alan also lost (to another Russian!)

After being lost for most of my game, I fought back to reach the following position:

Frick, Cristoph GER, 2264 vs White, Alastair SCO, 2096 16th November 2012

[pos]5k2/R7/7N/p1r3p1/5bPP/8/2P5/7K b - - 0 37[/pos]

37...Rxc2 38.hxg5? (38.Rxa5 should hold the draw after 38...gxh4 39.Rf5+ Kf7 40.Rxf5 Kxh6.

38.Rh2+! 39.Kg1 Be3+ 40.Kxh2 Bxa2 and the a-pawn cannot be stopped. 0-1

That gives me a rather fortunate 3/4. Tomorrow I get to play GM Vlastimil Jansa (CZE , 2452) on the Live Boards next to Craig . Don't expect miracles (from me at least).

Current standings have Craig and myself on 4.5/7, Phil on 4/7 and Alan on 3/7.

Unfortunately that means I play Craig on Wednesday (tomorrow is a rest day), having already played Phil on Sunday.

bad luck with pairings Alastair but well done on results so far - can an 11 move draw with Phil constitute 'having played him' though?! This is the undefeated Phil's 2nd consecutive quick draw.... was Phil under the weather? Last game not yet up..... hoping to see more than the opening!

Hi Joy and thanks for your interest in our progress...

Phil is physically OK but a bit 'sick' at all these draws! Despite only lasting 11 moves, our game included a lot of bluff and double-bluff as we both tried to avoid what we thought the other had prepared! After that we reached a position not very well known to 'theory':
[pos]rnbqkb1r/pp2pppp/8/2p1n3/5N2/8/PPPP1PPP/R1BQKBNR w KQkq - 0 6[/pos]

We both spent a lot of time analysing the Q-sac variation 6. Nf3 Bg4!? 7. Nxe5! Bxd1 – and now after 8. Bb5+ Nc6 9. Nxc6 Qb6 10. Nd5 Qxb5 11.Nc7+ Kd7 12. Nxb5 bxc6 13. Na3 the game is amazingly back to something like material equality. Unsure of that I went instead for 6. Bb5+ Nbc6 7.Qh5!? This introduced some more possible complications and we both used up a lot of time. But after the continuation 7...Qd6 8. Nf3 Bd7 I had nothing better than to exchange everything – 9. Nxe5 Qxe5 10. Qxe5 Nxe5 11. Bxd7+ giving us a sterile position with complete equality. Draw agreed but not due to any lack of effort on both sides.

In the previous round Phil spent ages trying to see a way to exploit his opponent's unusual knight manoeuvre – (Nb8-c6-b8-d7!?) When nothing came to mind, he was too short on time to do anything else but to accept a draw offer. So that wasn't a 'short' draw either despite appearances.

With 2 rounds to go Danish IM Jens Kristansen is leading with an impressive 7.5/9. GMs Vaisser (FRA) and Jansa (CZE) have 7/9 but both have the black pieces today.

Scottish scores: Pritchett 6/9; Giulian 5.5/9, White 5/9, and Borwell 4.5/9.

Craig drew with GM Ceballo yesterday and plays GM Okhotnik today
