European Individual Championships
#1
Good luck to Alan Tate in the Euro Individuals. I don't know what Alan would consider a succesful tournament and with a starting rank of 262 out of 350 it will be tough but I hope he does well.

I see Sarunas Sulskis, who is taking part in Prestwick 2012, will also be playing in the event, so I'll be keeping an eye on him too.

Opening ceremony today. Round 1 tomorrow.

Two very good results to start with. I hope Alan can maintain it. He needs to get his FIDE rating above 2400 as well.

My apologies Andy, I cut and pasted from the tournament website. Round 1 was a result. A very impressive draw, with black, against Jan Smeets.

Round 2 is the pairing. Alan Tate is white against GM Vajda Levente, graded 2597. The match will take place later today. Both players have a half point from their first round games. The games is on board 99, Alan's starting rank is 262, his opponent started the tournament ranked 100.

Unfortunately Alan lost today.

99 262 FM Tate Alan 2350 ½ 0 - 1 ½ GM Vajda Levente 2597 100

I wonder what the odds were before the start of the Championship on him meeting the opponent he has drawn in the third round.
