73/100 Players as things stand. Entry list at http://www.scottishblitz.com/EntryList01.06.12.pdf.

Hopefully we can reach the 100 mark... Would really be amazing for the tournament in its first year. Thanks to everyone who has entered already!

Thanks and very flattering, Jonathan ...

... But sadly I'm not really a formal "world seniors Blitz champion" of any sort - though I did win the first of two open Blitz tournaments held within the auspices of last November's world seniors championship at Opatija under the same FIDE time control and (well-arbited) conditions as will apply on 16th June; moreover the result was also clocked officially as a 2699 ELO performance (though not for any formal FIDE Blitz rating purposes).

Looking forward to the Scottish Blitz event immensely and can confirm that the 3 mins + 2 second increment is likely to lead to much better chess than under "old-fashioned" 5 minute / game rules ... it all but eliminates any madcap bashing on the clock, with pieces flying everywhere and seconds to go, which is all great fun but of doubtful real quality!

That's brilliant news. This looks set to be a really high-quality event, and hats off to Jonny for putting it together. An awful lot of people are going to get the chance to play against top-class opposition: I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who's still on the fence.

Here, here.

Gutted I'm on a plane when r1 kicks off, I would have loved to play. When new tournaments start up it really is important to support them. Most people probably don't appreciate the risk involved in staging something as big as this (take a look at the prize fund!), so even if blitz isn't everybody's cup of tea, why not enter to support Scottish chess, and probably end up having a great day out!

Thanks for the support guys.

I can now confirm that the Lord Provost will be presenting the prizes. A reminder that entry closes tonight =). Depending on interest I may accept entries on the day, but I'm moving into my new flat tomorrow so won't have internet.
