Hastings 11/12
#1
Quite a few Scots in this, with meaty first round pairings for Calum MacQueen and Clement Sreeves.

Adam Bremner, Alan Grant, Andy Green, Hamish Olson, Jonathan Edwards and James Macrae also playing.

Not sure how many live boards there are, may only be four. Clement's the highest Scot, on 11.

It does look like only 4 live games today. The hope is for 16. I know that there has been problems with the Internet connection here though hopefully that has been resolved.

Hoping for some good performances from our mob to finish off the old year and start the new one. It's a top class field so it will be tough but our guys have shown before they can mix it with the best. A good mixture of youth and experience among our nine players.

It will be a good opportunity for them all to test themselves against strong opposition. Best wishes to all our players.

Hopefully Alex will also have a good tournament and be able to interest some more top players in next year's Scottish.

Entry forms for the Scottish are out here and I will speak to a few titled players before the end of the event. The forms will be available at the Lothians with an update on the titled players competing.

Today's results.

Sreeves lost, MacQueen lost but may have had something, Bremner drew, Grant lost, Green won, Edwards lost, Olson lost. Macrae still playing but inferior (I think).

Tough day - Calum told me yesterday that it turned out that he hadn't actually been winning, which surprised him. Funny game, chess.

Andy's high up today, which might be interesting. Most of our other representatives have good chances to get on the scoreboard today, so here's hoping.

I get these sort of surprises all the ime but at a whole different level (lower). Can't say I find them funny, though I'm sure my opponents do.

I'm lying in my sick bed watching the live games, trying to pick up what tips I can but some of it is at a whole different level (higher). Still better than watching daytime tv or staring at the walls.

Alex, thanks for the Scots scores last night. Was hoping for a surprise extra half-point here and there but it seems the vast majority of the top half played to form yesterday.

This is a test transmission so may crash. Please let either Dave Clayton or me know if it does.

So far so good at Hastings today for the Scottish contingent. Adam Bremner must be pleased with his draw against IM Pert and Calum MacQueen and Clement Sreeves will be pleased to get their first wins.
