The main use of email addresses in the grading program since 2002 has been to automatically badge grading reports with the name and email of the person who compiled the data - with the idea that players in that event can contact the compiler directly to point out errors etc.

We had already been considering making the master.zip a protected download or stored in a protected directory ie the area grader requests a password to access the file.
Initially future email addresses will be opt-in only and not held by the grading program unless permission received. Errors can always be pointed out by contacting <!-- e --><a href="mailto:grading@chessscotland.com">grading@chessscotland.com</a><!-- e --> regardless of whether the actual compiler has a published contact email on that set of data.
