Forget the sea-sickness - what happens if certain players or captains can't get back in time for their tea? Wink

Andy (H)

Re- your post above (10:47), I think ‘naughty’ is an understatement. Kirsan’s approach has less to do with Chess than position/power/influence, and his strategy will be geared to that end. It’s all about politicking (at present). He puts himself forward as champion of the ‘underdog’, but at the same time he seeks to assert his overriding authority (cracking the whip). You could say that he is showboating?

For the moment, we are witnessing tactics. I doubt he would be so active if he were confident of electoral victory. Logistical issues are small beer compared with what seems to have been a snub from the Prime Minister of Norway in response to his personal appeal over visa/travel problems. Not to mention what he presents as the intransigence of the Olympic Organising Committee.

What was naughty was Kevin Spraggett’s ‘gossip’ about relocating the Olympiad to Sochi?

Whatever Kirsan is up to, we may be sure that he will have contingency planning in place.

George

Booom, Headshot! (apologies to the non gamers out there who don't have an idea what I am on about)!

So Sands and Long being told to resign, CHAOS!

Re: Tromso Olympiad 2014 - amuir - 18-07-2014

"In case the OC would unfortunately not (i) reverse its decision of 16 July 2014, (ii) allow legitimate
delegates to attend the FIDE Congress, (iii) exclude biased members and (iv) fully comply with the letter
and the spirit of FIDE regulations, FIDE will (i) request urgent measures before the CAS and (ii) sue
individually the members of the OC and/or signatories of the decision of 16 July 2014 for the financial
damages caused by their infringements of FIDE regulations, in particular (but not only) if the Chess
Olympiad in Tromsø must be cancelled and be held in another country. "

Basically Kirsan is saying that if the Russians aren't allowed to play, and if Morten Sands won't resign, he will move it to Sochi.

Re: Tromso Olympiad 2014 - George Murphy - 18-07-2014

Oh dear! … And for the first time, we see a real, specific threat to cancel and relocate (the Olympiad) to another country!!

Looks like a gauntlet to me. Who will pick it up?

George

I can see the Norwegians telling them where to get off, FIDE cancelling the Olympiad and Garry becoming president after this

Re: Tromso Olympiad 2014 - Matthew Turner - 18-07-2014

Would you be prepared to go to Sochi and vote against Kirsan? Principles are one thing, but I think I'd have to give it due consideration :-\

Damn right I would
