The discussion so far would tend to support the point of view I put on the original thread. Is this issue really important enough to be defaulting each other over?
How about this? Two teams of eligible players arrive at venue. Team order strictly to grading, so no jiggery-pokery on the basis of the faces you can see.
Prepared for the wrong opponent? Life is hard sometimes.

Exactly Bob! Unfortunately, certain players, teams and arbiters don't accept this approach
