why David?
Why not?

Perhaps more to the point, why are you concerned when you haven't even entered?
David,

Writing as one who has entered.

In counting the number of white wins is that the top section only? or is it the 3 sections combined?

Fantastic News...

David G Congalton Wrote:Fergus Ewing, MSP for Inverness and Nairn will officially welcome the congress participants to Inverness on Saturday morning.

A definite opportunity to make the case to a prominent MSP concerning funding for chess across Scotland. It also gives the event a bit more exposure.

Get entering people... I am one of the arbiters (what more incentive do you need? =o) I'm travelling up on Thursday night and staying in Culloden and I can't wait. I love Inverness as a city and the surrounding area. It’s brilliant!

I think it was one of the e2e4 events that used an external event (football possibly) to determine board 1 colours. I liked the idea and used it for Ayr this year.

Entrants list will close on Wednesday, so players will have an idea of who they will possibly be drawn against and they will now know which colour they are likely to have. Of course random events such as late withdrawals can change things but I think it does allow players to prepare for their probable first round opponents, if they wish to do so.

I think there are other benefits of this such as building anticipation of an event, possible future advertising revenue and so on but the bottom line is I liked the idea.
Thanks David. I thought that the top player got white in first round as a matter of course, good luck with the tournament.
Pat,

Only in Ayrshire!

(Stir, stir!)
There is always Hamilton Rules (top ranked Hamilion Player gets white)...

Thanks Pat.

Rule 8 of the pairing rules is the relevant rule.
