Praia da Rocha 1969

David N.L. Levy, born in England but resident in Scotland, represented Scotland at this Zonal in Portugal, held October 20-November 16.

This was a very successful event for Levy; he was unbeaten and achieved his International Master norm as a result of this performance. Hartston of England just missed his IM title by one point.

Levy wrote a detailed report for Chess, in which he was very critical of the organisation. Many players were affected by the conditions, including problems with meals. Fatigue was another factor, so typical of these long tournaments of that period.
