Celtic Triangular Tournaments

There were only two of these events, played by teams from Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Phil Giulian, captain of the Scottish team in the 1983-84 tournament, confirms that the series was discontinued as it was felt the event did not justify the costs.

At stake was the Glasgow 800 trophy, said trophy having been made available for the 1975 four-nations tournament to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Burgh Charter to Glasgow. That event was held in with teams of eight from Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. It had been hoped at the time to make it a biennial tournament, but this never came to pass.
