Mrs Maude Mary Ritchie

née Tucker

1872, Croydon, Surrey, ENG ─ 28 July 1953, Edinburgh

Associated with Edinburgh Ladies' Chess Club.

Scottish Ladies' Champion 1925 (after play-off against Miss MC Forbes).

Served as President of the Scottish Chess Association, the first woman to hold the position.

Cranston Trophy winner 1908 and 1937. After the demise of Stirling Ladies' CC, it was played for yearly by a representative from each of the remaining Ladies' clubs, Glasgow and Edinburgh. It comprised of a match of three games.

Her daughter ─ Miss Jean Ritchie ─ was also a member of Edinburgh Ladies' CC. She won the Girls' tournament in 1929 and 1930.
