Claud William Marshall

1910, Bolton, Lancashire - 17 September 1978, Alexandria, Dunbartonshire

Sometimes referred to as Claude.

Son of Dr Claud Marshall (1871-1956), a physician and surgeon whose practice for many years was at 8 Ardgowan Square, Greenock, and Helen Johnstone Marshall (née Tarbet).

  • Associated with Bohemians Chess Club in Glasgow, and after its demise, Glasgow CC.
  • Member of Bohemians team that won the Richardson Cup 1949.
  • Scottish Correspondence Champion 1939-40 (shared with D.M. MacIsaac).
  • West of Scotland Champion 1958.
  • Scottish Seniors' Champion 1973 (shared).
  • Scottish Seniors' Champion 1974.
  • Scottish Seniors' Champion 1975 (shared).

Bryan Hunter, who knew Claud Marshall, remembers that W.A. Fairhurst described him as "a particularly fine player." At one time he worked in the Accounts section of James Lamont Shipbuilders, Port Glasgow.

During the 1950s his home address was 9 Rose Crescent, Gourock.
