Richard Jordan was considerd to be one of the finest Draughts players ever. However, he was also a well regarded chess player.

In season 1905/6 Jordan represented the Edinburgh Working Men's CC in the Richardson Cup competition. In the first round match against Queen's Park CC (Glasgow), held on 9 December 1905, Jordan defeated C. Macdonald on board three. In the second round match against Glasgow CC, Jordan won again on board three, this time against J.R. Longwill, although Glasgow would go on to win the match and the competition.

(Incidentally, the Edinburgh Working Men's Club won the Edinburgh League Championship in the first three seasons: 1903/4; 1904/5; 1905/6.)

See Geoff Chandler's article on the life and death of Richard Jordan.
