  • Glasgow CC Champion 4 times: 1964, 1970, 1971, 1976.
  • West of Scotland Champion 1966, 1972.
  • On Scotland team at the World Students' Team Tournament 1962.
  • On Olympiad team at Havana 1966, Lugano 1968, and Siegen 1970.

Michael Freeman wrote an excellent article for Scottish Chess No. 146, October-November 1996. See Michael' Reminiscences here, which includes meeting several world-class players, including Gufeld, Bronstein, Fischer and Spassky, the latter described as ' a warm and considerate man, unaffected by any sense of grandeur.'
