Richard Réti in Scotland - 1923

The Falkirk Herald of 7 February (p. 4) reported that Réti arrived in Glasgow from Leeds on Friday, 2 February and fulfilled his first engagement with Glasgow Chess Club that evening. In a simultaneous display against 16 opponents he scored 13 wins and 3 losses, the successful players being W. Gibson, A.J. Neilson, and C. Wardhaugh.

Because of a club match on the Saturday, Réti was not engaged that day. It was reported that the Polytechnic had arranged for the visitor to be at their club on the Saturday afternoon, but that arrangement was cancelled on the Friday evening.

Réti gave another simultaneous display at Glasgow CC on Monday evening, 5 February. Against 17 opponents he scored 14 wins and 3 draws, these being against W.G. Crum, N.T. Mackenzie and H.N.J. Walsworth.

Thereafter, on Tuesday 6th, Réti returned to England to fulfill an engagement with Birmingham CC.
