Glasgow Herald, 14 March 1938, p19

And from the Glasgow Herald, Saturday, March 19, 1938:

The match between East and West played in Edinburgh last Saturday was a narrow win for East by 20½ games to 18½, as reported in detail in our columns on Monday. Several prominent players were missing on both sides, and several prominent Western clubs were not represented as they might have been, so that the teams were only of 39. Various causes have been suggested for the decline in popularity of this fixture, of which perhaps the most cogent is the change of date from November or December to March.
