The annual Congress [the 27th] of the Scottish Chess Association was held at Messrs. Ferguson and Forrester’s Restaurant, Princes Street. Edinburgh, from April 1st to 5th. The entries for the Championship were of more than usual strength, Mr. G.W. Richmond making his first appearance in this competition since he took up residence in Edinburgh. He proved successful, but only after a tie with Mr. W. Gibson, of Glasgow, who won the Championship in 1907. Mr. A.J. Mackenzie was third, the present being one of the few occasions on which he has not been rewarded with victory in this contest.

*The Tie-Match resulted in Mr. Richmond winning the first two games, and the title of Scottish Champion.

George W. Richmond was born in Manchester in June 1877, and died in London in November 1941. He represented Great Britain in the Anglo-American Cable Matches of 1907, 1908 and 1911.
